Conservation Vs Development: A Major Dilemma Facing the Oil & Gas Industry

The Oil & Gas industry stands at a pivotal crossroads in 2025, grappling with a complex mix of environmental, economic, technological and political pressures. In Uganda, the oil and gas industry has successfully turned the curve on a barrage of bad press and global activism against its flagship projects.

In the Murchison Falls National Park, where Prand Engineering has been engaged in Wellpads Development Works for the last 3years, wildlife and environmental preservation have remained at the forefront of our performance indicators.

Human and wildlife conflict has been a global challenge which has sparked debate on the co-existence of human and wildlife, conservation and development. This reality has been a challenge.

This, however, has not deterred Prand Engineering from delivering on its mandate.

We have employed several measures which have been instrumental in enabling us to navigate this dynamic. This includes.

  • Training of employees and our partners on wildlife protocols through regular park inductions.
  • Strict adherence to The Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Park regulations.
  • Keen attention to Totalenergies Project guidelines
  • Enforcement of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental protocols.
  • Community engagement: We recruited Community Tourism Liaison Officers from the local community who are a link between the community and the organization.

Despite this complex nature of operations, PRAND ENGINEERING has nonetheless remained steadfast in-service delivery.

This is another testament to our commitment to the founding principles upon which PRAND is built.

To date we have not registered any fatalities with regards to animals and human. In addition, no incidents of wildlife regulation violation have been recorded, while we continue to facilitate oil & gas operations and tourist activities as well.

These achievements are attributed to the cohesion between all the stakeholders on this project. We are continually evolving and aligning ourselves to the emerging project and regulatory frameworks.

As we continue to make a contribution to our country’s journey towards first oil in 2026, we are proud to know that our operations have remained at harmony with Tourist activities and Wildlife.
